skinnybob72  > Trains > Around Edinburgh
My home patch. These photographs have all been taken in and around Edinburgh. The pictures show Millerhill, the South Suburban Line, the branch to Leith Docks and Edinburgh Waverley. Sadly there isn't much freight around Edinburgh these days with Millerhill in particular being a shadow of its former self. The DRS run nuclear flasks to Torness is the only train to provide any real traction variety.

The short lived Stobart Pullman is seen passing Niddrie West Jcn in the late afternoon sunshine with an ECS working from Edinburgh Waverley - Craigentinny with 47501 and 47802 doing the honours, on 21st March 2008.
A sunny Sunday sees 66039 on the Leith Branch at the head of the 1Z47 Edinburgh Waverley - Leith Docks leg of the "Forth McFreighter" on 8th February 2009. This has been the only railtour down the Leith Branch in a number of years. ISO 400 1/250 F11 (no idea what this setting was all about!)
Railfreight Petroleum 60054 'Charles Babbage' passes through Newcraighall with the 6K20 Hilton Jcn - Millerhill engineers working on 15th February 2009. The loco was the last of the class to carry the original Railfreight sub-sector branding, outlasting the rest of the class by a number of years before being repainted into DB Schenker red after overhaul in 2012.

West Coast engineering sees the Tesco Express divered via Edinburgh and the ECML as 66428 passes Niddrie West Jcn with the 4Z16 Grangemouth - Daventry on 14th March 2009. To the right of the loco was where the double track from Wanton Wells Jcn (Lothian Lines) joined with the South Suburban line. The line was closed in the 1980's with all frieght then going via Millerhill.

The class 09 shunters spent almost their entire BR working lives on the Southern Region being based at depots like Hither Green, Eastleigh & Ashford. They started moving further afield towards the end of BR days with a couple moving to Tinsley in the late 80's. Once the railways were privatised they could end up anywhere and for a short spell at the start of 2009 class member 09014 was based at Millerhill. It is seen stabled between duties on 22nd March of that year. As far as I know this is the only member of the class to have visited Millerhill.
